LUST, greed, corruption. It must be a ballet by Kenneth MacMillan, the choreographer who once said he was "sick to death of fairytales".
Known for the darkness of his themes, MacMillan went where no choreographer had been before, into stories of decadence and perversion. But he also knew how to spin a sexy story, the most popular being Manon, the tale of a virginal girl whose desire for luxury transformed her into a courtesan.Manon, first seen in Australia in the mid-1990s, will return to the stage in the Australian Ballet's 2008 season, announced yesterday. The company's artistic director, David McAllister, said dancers were asking if they could be cast in the work. At a media conference in Melbourne the dancers Danielle Rowe and Luke Ingham posed in the Manon costumes, by the English designer Peter Farmer.
