YOUNG Hunter ballet dancers pirouetted and pointed with all their might yesterday in the hope of securing a place on stage in The Nutcracker.
About 35 students from dance schools all over the region attended auditions, held by Queensland Ballet, from which just four dancers were chosen. Queensland Ballet rehearsal assistant Nicole Galea said she was impressed with the calibre of students."It's just fantastic. There is a wealth of talent here in Newcastle. That's why we come down here," she said."We were confident auditioning for kids here because there are some wonderful dance schools around this location."The successful dancers will be notified this week and perform with Queensland Ballet when The Nutcracker comes to Newcastle for three shows on March 2 and 3.
